Mayors Adapt initiative launched

In the context of the EU Adaptation Strategy, a new EU adaptation initiative for cities, Mayors Adapt, was launched in March 2014.
Through this initiative, local authorities are encouraged to make a voluntary commitment to adopt local adaptation strategies and carry out awareness-raising activities. The initiative has been launched within the framework of the Covenant of Mayors and builds on the success of the European Commission's pilot project EU Cities Adapt. It is also linked with the existing online platform of the European Environment Agency, Climate-Adapt. While capitalising on these earlier success stories, this new initiative removes previous barriers to local authority engagement by allowing greater flexibility within its requirements.
