The Adriatic Ionian Cooperation (AIO) Programme 2014–2020 involves 31 regions in four EU countries and four candidate countries. Its draft strategy, published on July 2, 2014, mentions the OrientGate project's climate change impact scenarios as a valuable resource for the programme.

In the context of the EU Adaptation Strategy, a new EU adaptation initiative for cities, Mayors Adapt, was launched in March 2014.

The OrientGate project was presented at a meeting of the Romanian Adaptation Forum, organised on May 22 and 23 in Bucharest by the European Commission, Milieu Law and Policy Consulting, and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Romania.

A study prepared by the OrientGate partnership analysing policies, plans and actions on climate change mitigation and adaptation in South Eastern Europe was selected for presentation at an international conference.

At the 12th session of Working Group 1, held in Stockholm, Sweden, in September 2013, the Summary for Policymakers of the Working Group 1 contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was approved, and the underlying scientific and technical assessment was accepted.

The OrientGate project was presented at a workshop on October 8, 2013, during the European Commission's 11th European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels. Organised between October 7 and 10, the Open Days 2013 event featured workshops, debates, seminars and exhibitions under the slogan "Europe's regions and cities taking off for 2020".

Issue 2 of the OrientGate project newsletter has now been published. It features contributions by project partners and a round-up of the latest activities and meeting reports.

The annual conference of the South East Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme took place on June 19, 2013, in Bucharest, Romania.

On June 5–7, 2013, an international roundtable on the water and energy nexus in transboundary basins in South Eastern Europe was held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change was adopted by the European Commission in April 2013.

The seminar "Sustainable SEE: Thinking of the future based on the experience gained" was held on March 12, 2013, in Budapest, Hungary.

The website of the OrientGate project was officially launched on December 14, 2012. The website makes available updated information on project activities and contains an electronic workspace for project partners. In addition, it will provide access to the individual websites of the project’s three thematic centres and data portal.

The OrientGate project was presented during the side event “A Local Focus on EU Climate Policy: Adaptation in an Enlarging Europe”, at the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Doha.
